“The importance of punctuation”

      Just a real quick one to start your week. This morning I got up and was checking my e-mail, then went to CNN Headline News to see “What evils” lurked in our day today. The lead article was on Barry Obama’s new cabinet announcements and then a related article on the desire to “tone down” the entire Inauguration, seeing that the economy is falling apart, most of us are scared to death of a depression type 2009, and all the rest.

      One particular line jumped out at me, and the evil little voice in my head said to me, “Did you read that correctly?”

      First the line as it appeared,….”

The inaugural committee for Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden has pledged to make sure the ceremony underscores the incoming administration’s “commitment to change business as usual in Washington.”

Now the way my mind first read it, note the comma,…

The inaugural committee for Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden has pledged to make sure the ceremony underscores the incoming administration’s “commitment to change, business as usual in Washington.”

       Just a thought, or was if a Freudian read?  We’ll see.
