“Facebook?,….huh?”

About a year ago my new daughter-in-law, (a real “techie” thank God) sent me an e-mail and told me to get on Facebook. I did a little research and found out is was a “social networking” software. Being your typical 64 year old married to the same lovely woman for 43 years, I immediately tranlated “social networking” to be a sort of “technicalmeat market/pick up joint” for the “twentysomethings”  BUT I figured why not, check it out and see what it’s all about. I was a little more curious and figured I could be “passive” or a “lurker” without much effort and see what it was all about.

My humble and “old fart” opinion after a year of using it? “This is way cool, I like it!”

It is sort of an open line to visit with friends and see what they are up to, check out thier pictures that they put up for review, (vacations, kids, new homes, current activities, etc.) I actually found a whole herd of folks I NEVRwould have guessed would embrace a “;Social networking software”  like my Best Friend from HighSchool who is now an Orthopedic Surgeon, another goodfriend who has become an “Ex-pat”” and moved to Malta, neighbors in my neighborhood, MY KIDS, and THIER KIDS, and even a former Pastor of our Church who is studying for his Masters Degree in Theology at Catholic University in Washington D.C. It is really amazing.

I hit the button that allows Facebook to run my Microsoft Outlook Address Book against thier data base of Members and BAM!! Another ten or fifteen “friends”

I like the fact that they just can’t “lurk”; but have to ask you to be a friend, and then have to have you accept or reject them before they can see your “facebook page”     It does seem to be a very relaxed environment, and informative as all get out. In fact you can have it make suggestions of friends od friends whom you might be interested in becoming a "friend" with on line.

I’m really pleasantly pleased with it. I can now see y grand-daughter crawl (the seven month old one, notthe 16 year old 🙂 ) see how some of my friends and relatives are "aging" and other things. In fact my oldest boy, Shawn posted a new pix the other day of himself with a new Stetson Hat (he lives in the Dallas area, so it’s understandable) he looks pretty "cool" I "poked him and asked what the "Vince Gill " look was all about. I’ve even posted some of my own pictures on my facebook. At first I couldn’t figure it out, but I’m slowly "getting it".

If you are interested in checking it out, shoot me an email and join the fun. It’s free and it’s fun.

What is this crazy ” " ” crap that keeps poping up when I try and put quotes on,…where am I screwing up here? It’s annoying!
